Sinfonietta Nr.4 - Adhyatmika Svatantrata

Pierre-Antoine Savoyat's Sinfonietta n°4 pays tribute to one of the greatest French composers of the 20th century: Olivier Messiaen. The name Adhyatmika Svatantrata comes from Sanskrit: adhyatmika evokes spirituality and transcendence, while Svantantrata evokes freedom and emancipation. The title could therefore be translated as Spiritual Freedom. One of the most important factors in Messiaen's music is his relationship with Christianity and spirituality. So Savoyat also wanted to confront my spirituality, at a time when religions are once again playing a more important role in our society's debates. The composer chose to take the Bible as a reference, and by rereading and comparing the difference in discourse between the first chapters, which evoke the life and message of Jesus, where love, respect, tolerance and benevolence towards one's neighbour (whoever he or she may be) is the mantra, and the rest of the Bible, where the scenes are sometimes violent and encourage submission to religion, it then occurred to him a question: what if Jesus was himself an enemy of Christianity? Pierre-Antoine Savoyat also chose to include a Martenot wave part in the piece, an instrument characteristic of Olivier Messiaen's music. The piece is divided into six parts:
