Caruso is een lied geschreven door Lucio Dalla in 1986. Het nummer werd opgedragen aan Enrico Caruso, een van de bekendste Italiaanse tenoren. Het nummer gaat over een Italiaans-Amerikaans pianist die met weemoed terugdenkt aan een geliefde uit Sorrento. Het lied werd meermalen gecoverd. Bekende covers zijn die van Il Divo en Andrea Bocelli. De meest gekende uitvoering is die van Luciano Pavarotti tijdens een opvoering van The Three Tenors in Concert, een concert met Plácido Domingo, José Carreras en Luciano Pavarotti. Lucio Dalla (born March 4, 1943 in Bologna) is a popular Italian singer-songwriter and musician. He also plays clarinet and keyboards. He began at an early age to play the clarinet in a jazz band in Rome. The singer-songwriter Gino Paoli noticed Dalla's vocal qualities and suggested he attempt a solo career as an Italian soul singer. However, Dalla's debut at the Cantagiro festival in 1965 was unsuccessful probably due to his appearance and to his music, which was considered too experimental for the time. The early 1980s confirmed Dalla's popularity and talent, but started to mark a change in inspiration. DallAmeriCaruso (1986), although containing the famous Caruso song, is generally regarded by critics as the beginning of a decisive move towards easier if more successful songs.
