Paul Lovatt-Cooper componeerde Streamline Peaks in opdracht van de Glassworks Brass Band St-Prex in Zwitserland voor hun 100-ste verjaardag. De componist gebruikt twee kenmerkende Zwitserse elementen in zijn werk, de beroemde Zwitserse landschappen en hun beroemde spoorwegnetwerk. Streamline Peaks is een snel en opwindend concertwerk dat een treinreis in de Zwitserse Alpen muzikaal uitbeeld. Het start met een fanfare in het koper dat het begin van de dag uitbeeld. Alles wordt snel opgebouwd en de stoom wordt aangestoken door het slagwerk waarbij we onze dag door de Zwitserse bergen verderzetten tegen een hoog tempo. Er zijn tal van mogelijkheden waarbij solisten uit het orkest rechtstaan tijdens hun solo. Met deze solisten en groepen schildert de muziek het Zwitserse landschap. In het middendeel hebben we tijd voor een rustig moment waarna de bugels en de saxofoons ons opnieuw naar het originele tempo brengen. De finale, die geleid wordt door het slagwerk wordt materiaal uit vorige delen ontwikkeld en het werk bouwt op naar een grote finale die onze muzikale treinreis zal besluiten. Streamline Peaks is a fast paced exciting concert piece depicting a train journey across the Swiss landscapes. Starting with a lower brass fanfare, the piece starts its journey. It soon builds a head of steam and led by the percussion the piece begins it fast paced journey around the mountains. There are opportunities for soloists and solo groups to stand during the performance. With these featured soloists and ensemble sections, the music paints a descriptive picture of the Swiss landscapes. At rehearsal figure H; this middle movement allows for a moment of reflection lead by the solo cornets before taking us back to our original tempo. This final section, led by the drum kit and developing the material from earlier sections, the piece builds to a big finale, concluding our musical train journey.
