Catalan born cellist Pablo Casals not only set new standards in the solo repertory but also as a chamber musician. El Cant dels ocells is a Catalan folk song dedicated to his memory. It is based on a Catalan carol whose peculiarly haunting quality sounds especially evocative in this arrangement for euphonium. It is predicted this will become an absolute classic for the euphonium soloist. It is a simply beautiful and calm piece of music.
