Description

Slam Dunk is gecomponeerd in opdracht  van de National Youth Brass Band of Scotland voor hun Children’s Band. Dit stuk is een vrolijk funky nummer dat is gecomponeerd met als doel om voor zowel de artiesten als de luisteraar plezierige momenten te beleven.
Gecomponeerd in een pop-funk-stijl zijn de belangrijkste ritmische elementen gesyncopeerd maar gemakkelijk te begrijpen. Het stuk bevat een verscheidenheid aan secties binnen het orkest met de nadruk op de drumkit.
Er zijn secties in het stuk waar er door de ganse band wordt geklapt waar ook het publiek wordt bij betrokken. De muzikanten kunnen ook woorden of korte frasen in het ritme op de maat schreeuwen om een extra percussief ritmisch element toe te voegen.
Het belangrijkste idee bij dit stuk is om te genieten van de funky stijl en plezier te hebben bij het uitvoeren ervan. Je kan ook verschillende opstellingen uit proberen bij het uitvoeren van dit stuk.

Slam Dunk was commissioned by the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland for their Children’s Band. This piece is an upbeat funky number that was composed for both performer and listener to have fun with. Composed in a pop-funk style the main rhythmic elements are syncopated but easy to grasp. The piece features a variety of sections within the ensemble, with the main focus being the drum kit. There are sections within the piece that require clapping by the band – it would be great to get the audience involved as well. At rehearsal figure E – the band are required to clap and cheer. The performers can also shout out words or short phrases in rhythm to the beat. This is just to add an extra percussive rhythmic element to the section. The main idea with this piece is to enjoy the funky style and have fun performing it. Therefore ensembles are welcome to try out different playing positions when performing the piece.
